Land Rover 90 Additional Information
Camel Trophy spec 1986 90 C###HOX Private Sale
I have owned used and evented this 90 in the Uk, Europe, and Russia for more than a decade sharing the experience with my son Stephen and mechanic friend Darek. It is well known in the Camel Club and has established its own history during my custodianship, with great experiences and of course memories. I believe that my overlanding days are over, and its time for someone else to make their memories and experiences. I’ve enjoyed my journey and journeys with this Camel, but most of all the friends the car has introduced me to. A big thank you to all of you that helped me on the way.
Extensively restored in 2014/2015, so this is an older restoration that still looks fresh today. Mileage not warranted see text.
In my ownership I have completed the following: -
Fitted a new Richards Galvanised Chassis
Sourced a low mileage 200 Tdi engine (I bought a Somerset Fire Dept 90 with only 30,000 odd miles for a donor engine) then stripped and overhauled with recon head, fuel pump, radiator, upgraded intercooler etc.
Bought a recon stub nosed R380 fitted a short 5th gear added a 1.21:1 transfer box and a new clutch.
Brakes shocks springs and bushes replaced.
Correct early warn 8274 and cradle, Brownchurch Brush Bar, Brownchurch rack and Jerry can holders, Early Camel Trophy Safety Devices Roll cage, super rare Camel Trophy correct mirrors as fitted to 80 series Dodge trucks (after years searching I found an early ‘80s Dodge Horsebox bought it took the mirrors and handed back the rest!) Axe, Pick Axe, spade, snorkel and tow hitches all event correct. Currently rolling on 6 x Geolander 235/85-16 tyres, option for a set of new old stock Michelin XCL 7.50-16 as used on the 1986 event. C ###HOX are the correct reg numbers for CT1986
The body restoration involved complete strip down new doors and wings professional repaint of all while disassembled with no filler. Rare correct brushwood seats (the two rear ones will be refitted) To be clear this is a recreation of a 1986 Australian Camel Trophy 90 that won the coveted award at CT45 as the best rebuilt Camel Replica / Tribute vehicle awarded by the Club Chair Chris Hewett and Bob Ives CT’89, something I am very proud of.
